Interpreting formats and assignments

Meetings, conferences and official appointments need different approaches. Our guides explain the formats and preparation.

  • Consecutive interpreting

In consecutive interpreting, participants speak in sections and the interpreter conveys each contribution during a pause. It can suit conversations with a manageable number of participants.

  • Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting conveys an ongoing contribution into another language with a short delay. Conferences and events need advance planning of language channels, equipment and staffing.

  • Interpreters for courts and public authorities

Courts and public authorities may require particular interpreter qualifications. Send the institution, languages and appointment details together with the qualification requirements you…

Clarify format, preparation and qualifications

Choose the suitable format

For a meeting with a small group, interpretation in short sections may work well. For a conference with ongoing presentations, simultaneous interpreting may be appropriate. The schedule, audience size and available equipment all matter.

Allow subject preparation

Send the agenda, presentations, names and a glossary before the appointment where possible. This helps clarify terminology, responsibilities and organisational questions before the assignment.

Clarify qualifications and arrangements

Courts and public authorities may set particular requirements. Tell us which institution is involved and send its instructions. We check whether a suitable interpreter is available for the languages, subject and date you request.

How we plan your interpreting assignment

  1. Send the key details

Tell us the languages, date, location, duration and purpose.

  2. Discuss format and quote

We clarify the format, qualifications and equipment and check availability.

  3. Prepare the assignment

Once commissioned, we agree contacts, briefing material, meeting point and schedule.

  4. Attend the appointment

Interpreting takes place within the agreed scope. Discuss changes to the schedule or duration with your contact.

Dates, availability and duration

Enquire as soon as the location and date are known. Availability depends on languages, subject and location. For urgent requests, give the actual deadline; we confirm availability only after checking. For longer events, we discuss breaks and whether a team is needed.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Date, start time, planned duration and full address
  • Languages, regional variants and interpreting direction
  • Purpose, subject, participant count and local contact
  • Institution requirements, agenda and necessary equipment

Interpreting and written translation

Interpreting conveys spoken contributions during an appointment. Written documents need translation; formally certified documents belong to the separate certified translation service. We help you identify the different tasks for your event.
